KMA Announces Plan to Switch to Solar-powered Streetlights

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced plans to switch to solar-powered streetlights across the metropolis.
This initiative, according to the Assembly, will be a smart and sustainable step to curb the persistent issue of cable and bulb thefts.
It anticipates that it will not only help lighten up the city but also enhance safety, improve night visibility, and reduce the city’s energy burden.
As part of this initiative, Mayor Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang toured several areas in Kumasi to assess malfunctioning streetlights on Monday, November 10, 2025.
“The engineers are expected to begin restoration and maintenance works in the coming days,” it reported on Tuesday.
It added, “We appreciate the patience, constructive criticism, and support of all residents as we work together to make Kumasi brighter and safer.”
