Amankwa-Manu To Ghanaians: We’re Ready To Deal With Terrorists
The Deputy Minister of defence, Kofi Amankwa-Manu has said the security and intelligence agencies are well-equipped to fight against terrorism.
“Currently there’s something interesting happening and we are drawing lessons from what is happening. Go to the Northern Region, we are putting barracks up and if you look at the way it’s being structured and the way the entire northern part of our country has been enveloped, you will understand,” he said in an interview.
“This is to reduce response time if there should be any attack,” he said.
Meanwhile, the executive director for the African Center for Counter-Extremism Muqtar Mumuni Muqtar, is calling on various public institutions to put in place adequate security measures to prevent terrorist attacks.
Some institutions such as the Kwame University of Science and Technology are taking steps to protect people and property.
He also advised other institutions to follow suit.
“All security agencies are either in the public or private space are putting measures to ensure that we work to prevent terrorism in the country.
“Already we have very poor sense of security as a people and it’s because we have taken our peace and security for granted for a long time. Now is the time for us to start building that sense of consciousness around security in all public places,” he said.
