Temporary Akosombo Control Room Set for Completion in September 2026- Jinapor

The Temporary Control Room at the Akosombo Switchyard will be completed by the end of September 2026, Energy Minister John Jinapor has said.

After inspecting emergency restoration works at the facility on May 20, 2026, Jinapor said the timeline was confirmed during a briefing from GRIDCo, led by Ing. Frank Otchere.

The Temporary Control Room will be fitted with modern control systems and enhanced fire protection measures to safeguard both interim and permanent facilities.

The switchyard’s original Control Room was destroyed in a fire on April 23, 2026, disrupting power supply across the country.

Mr Jinapor added that the government is also engaging power sector stakeholders on constructing an ultra-modern permanent Control Room to strengthen the resilience and reliability of Ghana’s transmission infrastructure.

He commended GRIDCo, the Volta River Authority, and technical teams for their commitment to restoring operations at the site.
