Tema Oil Refinery Resumes Operation in Last Quarter of 2025- MD

The Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Mr. Edmond Kombat, has announced that the refinery will resume operations in the last quarter of this year.

It follows a systematic weekly review by a turnaround maintenance committee on how to re-operationalise the plant.

“And so far, the timeline that we are seeing, between September and October, we should get the CDU back on stream,” Mr. Kombat said.

According to him, TOR can be a profitable enterprise as it still holds the capacity to refine.

He stated that TOR’s operation would reduce the monthly import bill for refined petroleum products from $400 million to less than 60% of that figure.

“We spend $400 million every month importing refined petroleum products. When TOR is running, we will need less than 60% of that money to import refined petroleum products because our nameplate capacity is 45,000 barrels.

“And we recently installed a new furnace. With that new furnace, we can actually do 60,000 barrels. And nationally, we consume about 100,000 barrels per stream every single day. So we can do between 45 to 60% if the refinery is up.”

TOR was shut down in 2021.
