Morocco, Portugal and Spain To Host 2030 World Cup

The world football governing body, FIFA has announced the 2030 World Cup tournament will be hosted in three countries on two continents including Europe and Africa.

Morocco, Portugal and Spain were announced as host countries for the tournament which will also coincide with the Federation’s 100th anniversary.

However,  the first three games will take place in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay in acknowledgement of World Cup tournament’s inception from South America.

The decision was reached during extensive consultation with all confederations with the centenary in consideration during a videoconference.

The decision is aimed at uniting a divided world through FIFA and football, according to President Gianni Infantino.

“The FIFA Council also agreed unanimously that the only bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 will be the joint bid of Morocco, Portugal and Spain,” he said, adding that “Africa and Europe will be united “not only in a celebration of football but also in providing unique social and cultural cohesion. What a great message of peace, tolerance and inclusion.”

“In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup.”

Meanwhile, the FIFA member associations from the territories of the AFC and the OFC have been invited to bid to host 2034 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States of America (USA), Canada and Mexico.
