A/R: KMA to Deploy MTTD Officers to Enforce New Transport Fares

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has engaged the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to enforce the recent reduction in transport fares by commercial drivers.
This agreement was reached during a meeting between the Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi and the Regional MTTD boss on Monday.
“It has come to the attention of The Office of the Mayor of Kumasi, Honourable Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi that, some commercial drivers have refused to adhere to the newly approved fares,” a statement by the Assembly relayed.
It noted that the action of the drivers is a criminal offence punishable by the law.
“To ensure full compliance with this directive, the Mayor in a meeting with the Head of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Kumasi have agreed to deploy officers to major roads in the Metropolis to monitor and enforce adherence to the new fares.”
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) last week announced a 15% reduction in the transport fares effective May 24.
However, some drivers have refused to adhere to the directive.
