National Interest Must Always Supersede Personal Ambition- Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that national interest must always be put before the parochial and personal interest in all matters.
This he said, in response to the United Nations (UN) commendation of his statesmanship in taking early concession in the 2024 Presidential Election to forestall chaos and ease heightened tension.
The message was conveyed by a UN Country Resident to Ghana, H.E. Charles Abani during a courtesy call on the unsuccessful Presidential aspirant at his residence on February 4, 2025.
“H.E. Abani, delivered a message on behalf of the United Nations, expressing appreciation for my contributions to Ghana’s peace, democracy and development. H.E. Charles Abani particularly highlighted my vision and initiatives for Ghana’s digital economic transformation I championed as Vice-President and my early concession in the 2024 elections,” Dr Bawumia posted on Facebook.
In response to the message, he reiterated his conviction for the national interest to be upheld.
“As politicians, national interest must always supersede personal ambition.”
The former veep lost the election after garnering 4,877,611 votes, accounting for 41.75 per cent while his fiercest contender John Dramani Mahama won with 6,591,790 votes, representing 56.42 per cent of valid votes cast.
He conceded defeat a day after the election, referencing his party’s collated provisional results from across the 276 constituencies.
