A/R: KMA Orders Traders Around Baba Yara Stadium to Vacate in 21 Days

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a 21-day deadline for traders operating around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to remove all temporary structures or risk demolition.

In a public notice dated October 14, 2025, the Assembly directed that all wooden and metallic kiosks, container shops, and other makeshift structures near the stadium be cleared within the stipulated period.

“All temporary structures (wooden, metallic kiosks or shops) located around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium are to be removed within twenty-one (21) days from the date of this announcement.”

The directive forms part of a broader decongestion exercise aimed at creating space for planned road expansion and beautification projects within the central parts of Kumasi.

According to the Assembly, the clearance will pave the way for ongoing urban renewal works linked to the government’s partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

“The Assembly wishes to remind the public that these directives have become necessary following the Government of Ghana’s partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the construction of a dual carriage road from Santasi to Ahodwo Roundabouts, linking the Asokwa Interchange.”

The collaboration seeks to enhance road connectivity between key corridors, including the Santasi and Ahodwo Roundabouts, and link them to the Asokwa Interchange.

The KMA has therefore urged all affected traders to comply with the order to avoid any disruptions when the enforcement phase begins.

The Assembly also appealed to the public to cooperate fully to ensure the smooth and timely execution of the redevelopment project, which is expected to improve access and ease traffic congestion around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
