KATH Signs MoU with Mayo Clinic USA; Delegation Seeks Asantehene’s Blessings

A delegation from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), accompanied by a team of 29 medical experts from the Mayo Clinic in the United States, paid homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, during the 8th Awukudae Festival of the year held at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Introducing the team, Professor Eric Addison, a board member of KATH, explained that the collaboration between the hospital and the Mayo Clinic has been ongoing for over two years.
The partnership, he said, has allowed both institutions to share knowledge, improve clinical practice, and enhance medical training for Ghanaian physicians.
“What you see Your Majesty are experts from Mayo Clinic, the best you can have in the world and they have come to work with all the doctors at KATH and take care of patients and go into research and education.”
Professor Addison noted that the team visits Ghana annually to work alongside KATH doctors in various specialties, and their visit to the Palace was to seek the Asantehene’s blessings for their continued collaboration.
He added that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between KATH and the Mayo Clinic, formalizing the partnership to further strengthen healthcare delivery and professional exchange.
“We’ve have two workshops already and its needful that we come and seek your blessing, your direction. There was an MoU signed between Mayo Clinic and KATH and so they will be coming every year.”
The delegation presented gifts to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II after introducing themselves and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to pay homage during the festival.
Also joining the festival to pay homage were St. Louis College of Education, Komfo Anokye Nursing and Midwifery Training College, the Bright and Pure Holiness Ministry, and business entities including the Asanteman Cold Store Association, Mantrack Company, KASSAB Trading and Restaurant, and Westec Security Ghana Ltd.
A team of cardiologists from Pace of Life, United Kingdom (UK), also participated, alongside the Asanteman Europe Association.
