Finance Minister Unlocks Grant to Tackle Kumasi Traffic
The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has envisioned a seamless and convenient movement for passengers and freight after unlocking a Japanese grant to improve the Kumasi Inner Ring Road.
In a statement, he said he had signed ¥ 3 billion (Japanese Yen) grant agreement with JICA.
The Inner Ring Road is a critical artery, linking the N6 and N8 within Kumasi and forming part of the Takoradi/Tema Ports–Ouagadougou Corridor.
Acknowledging the rapid growth in traffic, congestion, delays, and safety risks for road users on these roads, he promised the transformation would more than triple travel speeds.
As part of the project, he said 3.2 km of road between Santasi and Ahodwo Roundabouts will be widened; intersections with modern traffic signals will be upgraded; pedestrian facilities and drainage systems will be improved; and connectivity between Santasi Roundabout and the N8 will be enhanced.
“We are deeply grateful to JICA for this generous support and continued partnership with Ghana.”
Meanwhile, he outlined the Suame Interchange and Local Roads, the Sunyani Road (Phase 2), the Konongo Bypass, and the forthcoming 45km Kumasi Outer Ring Road as part of the government’s wider agenda for Ashanti Region.
