Until Recent Killings, Otumfuo Had Almost Brought Finality To Bawku Conflict- Govt

According to the government, significant strides have been made in the ongoing Bawku resolution process spearheaded by the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
In an update, it said finality had almost been brought to the conflict until the very recent killings.
This, it said, has necessitated drastic actions to protect all in the interests of the greater good.
In a statement on July 27, 2025, it commended His Majesty for his goodwill.
It as well appreciated all stakeholders for supporting the peace process.
The government has since stepped up its approach by adopting peace enforcement after peacekeeping failed.
“The Ghana Armed Forces have been deployed to maintain law and order, as we intensify curfews to ensure public safety. We assure the public that the Ghana Armed Forces will take all necessary measures to protect lives and property.”
It urged residents to fully cooperate with the Ghana Armed Forces to ensure peace.
“While regretting the inconvenience this peace enforcement intervention may cause to peace-loving people within the affected areas, the Government of Ghana remains committed to restoring peace and stability in Bawku and other affected areas and is taking every necessary measure to ensure the safety and security of all residents, including students,” it added.
