Asantehene Receives Request to Host Akwasidae in Europe
The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has received a request to host an Akwasidae Festival celebration in Europe in 2027.
The request comes three months after the King hosted the grand festival in the United States of America.
The proposal from the Asante diaspora in Europe was presented through the Chairman of the Planning Committee for Akwasidae USA, Nana Otimpia Aben II (Sasaamo Paninhene), at the Manhyia Palace on November 6, 2026.
Conveying the request, the traditional leader noted that consultations were ongoing to select an appropriate host city, with Holland and Germany among the proposed destinations.
Otumfuo welcomed the initiative and emphasised the need for consensus among the European chapters.
“The Asantes in Europe reside there and should collectively determine the host venue. They must unite behind a single decision without any external imposition.”
Meanwhile, he commended the planning committee for the seamless execution and high level of success achieved during the Akwasidae USA celebration.
Nana Otimpia Aben II led a delegation to formally express gratitude to His Majesty following the successful August 2026 event.
He was accompanied by committee members including Oheneyere Acheampomaa Gyau Tiwaa II, Otumfuo Ntomasifuo Baapanin; Nana Konadu Yiadom, Chair of the US Chapter of the Otumfuo Foundation; and Kesha Nsiah-Ababio, a committee member.
