Unpaid Teachers Accuse Teacher Unions of Disregard

Some recently appointed public school teachers have taken offence at an alleged glaring inaction and unbothered posture taken by teacher unions over their plights.

At a picketing event at the office of the Ghana Education Service on April 30, 2025, the affected teachers were captured pouring their fury and frustration at the delay in their payment.

One teacher expressed disappointment at teacher unions’ loud silence over their grievances.

He believes causes like theirs should long have captured the interest of the teacher unions.

“What are you fighting for?  They are just fighting for promotions and upgrading. Whoever touches our money when it comes will face wrath. You are telling us to go to the GNAT secretariat. What should we go and do there.”

Another accused authorities in the country of greed and self-centeredness.

“Teachers work for nine solid months without pay how do you expect them to pay their utility bills? Our leaders are very wicked and greedy. They think about only themselves.”

One other postured, “You accused us of laziness. By the grace of God, we went to college and now you don’t want to pay us. Where did we go wrong?”

The teachers who are graduates of Colleges of Education received appointment letters on July 5, 2025, and started work on September 10, 2025.

They have eight months of salaries in arrears while others are yet to receive their staff IDs.
