NAIMOS Arrests Suspected Illegal Miners At Subin Akwaaboso

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested some suspected illegal miners at Subin Akwaaboso in the Central Region during an operation on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026.

In a press statement issued on Monday, November 2, 2026, and signed by its Spokesperson, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, NAIMOS said its personnel and members of the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) faced considerable resistance during the operation.

According to the Secretariat, a group of individuals, some wielding cutlasses, firearms and other offensive weapons, obstructed the operation, creating risk for personnel and others present.

“In the face of the obstruction, the enforcement team, under the direction of the NAIMOS Director of Operations, Colonel K. S. Appiah, exercised maximum restraint and took decisive measures to prevent further escalation,” the statement said.

NAIMOS has reiterated that any obstruction of lawful enforcement is a serious concern, warning that individuals suspected of attacking personnel or obstructing operations will be referred to the relevant authorities for necessary action.

The Secretariat stressed that it will continue to act within the law, exercising restraint and taking necessary and proportionate measures to protect personnel, accompanying journalists and members of the public during the discharge of its duties.

It therefore urged community leaders and residents to support lawful operations and raise any concerns through appropriate channels.
