Ghana Medical Trust Fund Courts US Investors to Expand Specialised Healthcare in Ghana

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has called on American hospitals, investors, medical institutions, foundations and philanthropists to partner with Ghana to expand access to specialised healthcare.

Speaking during the Ghana-Tennessee Business and Investor Roundtable in Nashville, Tennessee, Ms Darko-Opoku highlighted the Fund’s progress so far, including over 800 patients enrolled for treatment, the restoration of critical cardiac services at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, ongoing oncology centre projects and investments in medical equipment and specialist training.

She said there are vast opportunities for collaboration in areas such as cancer care, diagnostic infrastructure, medical technology, specialist training, research and financial support for vulnerable patients.

According to her, the GMTF is ready to turn goodwill into concrete action by inviting interested institutions and individuals to engage the Fund, identify priority projects and develop practical partnerships that will save lives and strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.

“Together, we can bring specialised healthcare closer to those who need it most,” she noted.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which operates under the theme “Investing in care, strengthening hope,” was established to provide financial support for specialised medical care for Ghanaians suffering from chronic and complex conditions.
