Asantehene Expresses Optimism about New IGP

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, is confident that the new Inspector General of Police, Mr Christian Yohuno, has the needed experience to deliver on his mandate.
The new IGP replaced Dr George Akufo Dampare in March this year.
“He had been accompanying various IGPs to come here, and now it’s his turn. He has learnt and will apply. I believe he knows the ins and outs of the police service,” Otumfuo said on May 9, 2025, when Mr Yohuno, accompanied by the Police Management Board (POMAB), visited the Manhyia Palace to introduce himself.
Otumfuo further underscored the need for the IGP to collaborate with the entire police force for effective discharge of the law enforcement duties.
“He has to liaise with the officers and Management to work for the betterment of Ghana. The Police Service is important to Ghana. It provides security and ensures peace. All of you should also help him perform the task. Unite and do it.”
His Majesty further encouraged the public to assist the police with intelligence.
“The task is herculean, and without our assistance, they cannot do it. Intelligence, for instance, is a way the citizenry helps in the work.”
The IGP was at the Palace purposely to seek the blessings and counsel of Otumfuo.
“I’ve monitored everything you have done for the Service. Mine is to come to you, King Solomon, to get wisdom and direction so that we can steer the affairs of this Service, especially Kumasi and Ashanti.”
He used the occasion to brief His Majesty about the current security situation in the Ashanti Region.
