Stakeholders Oriented on Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme Funding Arrangements

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA) has commenced a nationwide stakeholder orientation on the evolving funding arrangements under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) to ensure the continuity of ongoing infrastructure projects and the delivery of benefits to communities.

The Zone Three session, hosted by the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, brought together stakeholders from Asokwa, Suame, Oforikrom, Obuasi, Kwabre East, Ahafo Ano North, Asunafo North and Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assemblies, representing the Ashanti, Ahafo and Western North Regions.

The orientation engaged MMDCEs, Municipal Coordinating Directors, consultants, contractors and technical officials to deepen understanding of current financing arrangements and measures to sustain project implementation.

With limited funds currently available, the Ministry has adopted a coordinated approach that prioritises sub-projects based on their stage of completion while continuing efforts to mobilise additional resources.

Participants also received presentations on financial management, monitoring and evaluation, contract management, and environmental and social safeguards to strengthen coordination and effective programme delivery.

The initiative is expected to safeguard investments already made under the Programme and support the successful completion of ongoing sub-projects, ultimately improving infrastructure, service delivery and the quality of life in beneficiary communities.

The GSCSP is a Government of Ghana initiative financed through a World Bank credit facility and implemented by MLGCRA in collaboration with participating Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies to strengthen urban governance and improve infrastructure and service delivery in selected secondary cities across the country.
