Speaker Bagbin to Deliver Keynote Lecture for Supreme Court’s 150th Anniversary

The Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, will deliver the keynote lecture as part of the 150th-anniversary celebration of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
A planning committee for the milestone event, led by Supreme Court Judge Justice Richard Adjei-Frimpong, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker to formally invite him and brief him on the lineup of activities.
The 150th anniversary, launched in April 2026, celebrates a court that began in colonial times as a simple dispute resolution forum and has evolved into the apex court with the power to interpret the Constitution.
The commemoration will run from July 2 to July 31, 2026, and will feature a series of public and legal community engagements.
Highlights include lectures, media engagements, a health walk, legal outreach and education programmes, a “What Do You Know” competition, and a moot court.
The centrepiece will be the anniversary lecture on July 23, where Speaker Bagbin will speak on the theme: “A Supreme Court in the Life of the 1992 Constitution: Taking Stock and Looking Forward.”
Receiving the delegation, Speaker Bagbin described the 150-year milestone as coming at an opportune time for Ghana’s democracy.
He said Parliament is ready to fully attend and participate in all scheduled events.
The Speaker also called for stronger partnership and collaboration between the Legislature and the Judiciary to advance democratic gains.
He further recommended that the celebration be extended beyond Accra to all regions so ordinary citizens across the country can feel the impact of the historic milestone.
