South Korea to Help Ghana Establish University, Automotive Manufacturing Plant and Solar Irrigation Systems

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says Ghana is partnering South Korea to undertake projects in energy, auto and education.
After co-chairing the 2026 Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Foreign Minister H.E. Cho Hyan, he took to Facebook to report that the two countries will open a new university in Ghana; establish a West African Hyundai Automotive Manufacturing Plant in Ghana; and launch new solar irrigation systems.
The countries also agreed to collaborate in artificial intelligence and to develop new partnerships in energy and critical minerals.
On migration, the Minister said Ghana and South Korea’s visa waiver negotiations covering all categories of passports are progressing well, with diplomatic and service passport holders already secured on Monday.
According to the Minister, value addition, industrialisation, job creation for the world’s youngest population, and better returns on transactions featured prominently in their discussions and added that South Korea was happy to collaborate on these goals, leveraging its reputation as a technology and manufacturing powerhouse.
The two countries will next year commemorate 50 years of formal diplomatic relations.
