Samreboi Case: Court Rejects Appiah-Kubi’s Legal Representation Withdrawal

An Accra High Court has dismissed lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi’s request to withdraw from representing clients in the ongoing criminal case involving Akonta Mining Company Limited, Kwame Antwi, and Ashanti NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Justice ruled the application incompetent after upholding a preliminary objection filed by the Attorney-General.

The Attorney-General argued there is no legal requirement for counsel to seek the court’s leave before withdrawing legal representation.

The motion, he said, raised no issue that needed judicial determination and should not be entertained.

The court agreed with the State’s objection, sustained it, and struck out Mr Appiah-Kubi’s application.

The court also clarified that filing closing addresses in the matter remains optional under procedural rules.

It extended the deadline for submitting any closing addresses to June 24, 2026.

Judgment in the case is now scheduled for July 3, 2026.
