RTU Vrs Hearts Match Goes On Despite Injunction

The Ghana Football Association has indicated that the new season will commence despite a court injunction by AshantiGold Sporting Club.

The season begins with a match between Real Tamale United (RTU) and Hearts of Oak at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium today, Friday, September 15, 2023.

The court injunction dated September 11 which has circulated on social media in the last few days was filed by the President of the Ashgold, Dr Kwaku Frimpong.

It read, “Kindly find attached, a copy of the court’s hearing notice for your onward perusal pending the injunction application on notice for and against the starting of the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League until the court so determines.”

It was expected that this would hinder the commencement of the league, however, on Friday, the GFA promoted on its website the match between RTU and the Phobians.

In July, Ashgold were slapped with an indefinite ban at the 29th Ordinary Session of Congress of the Ghana Football Association. This was after 67 members of the GFA cast their votes in favour of the suspension with only 17 against it.

Background
AshGold found themselves wanting after they were implicated in a betting and match-fixing scandal in their 2020/2021 premier league matchday 34 against Inter Allies FC in which the match ended in 7 goals to 0 against Inter Allies FC though it was reported that the fixed to fulfil a correct score of 5 goals to 1 in favour of AshantiGold SC.

After an investigation by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA, the club, its President and Chief Executive Officer, 16 players and two team officials guilty.

The Committee in its judgement demoted the Club to Division One while the players and officials were sanctioned by the Disciplinary Committee.
