Reshuffle: Appointed Ministers React

Some ministers who have been affected by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s ministerial reshuffling have reacted to their appointments and reassignments expressing their gratitude to the President for the confidence.

Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who now heads the Ministry of Works and Housing and former Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey who now takes over the Interior Ministry are hoping to make much impact in their newly found role.

“We serve at the pleasure of the President,” Oppong Nkrumah reacted to his alien role in an interview on Eyewitness News monitored by opemsuo.com.

“I’m looking forward to taking on the new challenge.”

His focus will be on rural housing associated with the Agenda 111 project, flooding associated with the drainage systems and the Saglemi Housing Project, he said.

Meanwhile, Henry Quartey who formerly was a deputy Interior Minister under Ambrose Dery says he will be taking some counsel from his former boss who is now a Minister of State at the Office of the President.

“I know I can always knock on his door day and night and he will give me advice. I will go there (Interior Ministry) and by the grace, I know we will be able to serve the good people of this country in the security architecture.”

He further expressed confidence in his appointed substitute at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Titus Glover.

According to him, Titus is a “solid substitute”.

“We have done a lot, but of course, with the situation in Accra- people doing the same thing at the same time- we needed some time to ensure that there is a complete change. I have no doubt in my mind that my good brother who was once a deputy Minister for Transport and currently the MD for VALCO has the skills, and energy that is required to continue from where I’ve left.”

Some observers have criticized the timing of the reshuffle calling it “dead on arrival” and doubting its efficacy but Titus Glover asserts much can be achieved.

“There are substitutes who can do a lot of magic. Even in football…a substitute can come in second and do a lot for victory. I see myself as a substitute that has come to complete the match.”

About his newly found role, he commented, “He (Henry Quartey) started so many things and I think that stepping into his (Henry Quartey) shoes is a challenge for me. I will not blow my horn, I will get the handing over note, and I will sit with the Management of the RCC, the various Chief Executives of the various Assemblies, other key stakeholders, departmental head so that together we can look at the roadmap and some of the things he has not finished which we can continue in the next couple of months.”

The Jubilee House on Wednesday, announced the reshuffling of 13 sector ministers and 13 deputy ministers.

Six of them were reassigned while three former deputy ministers were appointed sector ministers.
