Housing Ministry Constitutes Task Force To “Protect” State Lands

The Ministry of Works and Housing has announced the constitution of a task force to protect public lands encroached upon by people in the Greater Accra Region.

It comes in the wake of growing encroachment on state lands in the region.

“The Ministry of Works and Housing has noted with grave concern, emerging worrying development of encroachers occupying government’s lands with blatant disregard and in some cases, with the ulterior motive of developing the lands for their own use.”

The task of the detail will be limited to Labone, Cantoments, Roman Ridge, Ridge, Adenta, Airport Residential Area, Sakumono, Madina Estate, Larterbiokoshie and Nkrumah Flats.

The task force is mandated to render protection to the government’s landed properties in the earmarked areas, according to the Ministry.

Meanwhile, they will be working hand-in-hand with personnel of the Ghana Police Service, a statement from the Ministry noted.

“The Ministry wishes to remind the general public that it has the mandate to manage, protect and reclaim government’s landed properties from encroachers and other illegal occupants.”

It continued, “We are, therefore, calling on encroachers and illegal occupants in the aforementioned enclaves and any other government properties to keep off as the Ministry undertakes this exercise to sanitise the housing sector.”
