Mahama Meets CSOs Ahead of Governance Advisory Council Establishment

President John Dramani Mahama has initiated conversations in the quest to establish a Governance Advisory Council.

This is in fulfilment of his campaign promise to Ghanaians.

A report by the Jubilee House said the Council will serve as an independent watchdog, advising the government on critical issues such as human rights, corruption, and governance.

He is confident that this will strengthen governance and accountability.

President Mahama at the meeting with representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on May 26, 2025, stated, “This council is a commitment to the Ghanaian people, a promise to foster a more transparent and accountable government.”

The Council will comprise diverse voices from civil society, religious leaders, traditional authorities, academia, labour, and ordinary Ghanaians. It will produce an annual, publicly accessible report on the state of human rights, corruption, and governance in Ghana.

Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor for Governmental Affairs, will lead the government’s efforts in establishing this vital council.
