Police Storm Galamsey Hotspots in Western Region, Arrest 10

The Ghana Police Service has carried out another major operation in the Western Region, leading to the arrest of 10 suspected illegal miners near the Tano River and within the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.

The raid, which took place on Thursday, April 18, was intelligence-driven and uncovered significant mining activity in the area.

Law enforcement officers confiscated 11 excavators and a bulldozer believed to be used in the unauthorized operations. The machinery was moved across the Tano River and is now secured under police protection.

This latest action follows closely on the heels of a similar crackdown the previous day—Wednesday, April 17—when police apprehended 26 individuals in the Subri Forest and around the Tano River.

Among those arrested were 18 Ghanaians and 8 Chinese nationals.

The environmental toll has prompted a more aggressive response from law enforcement to safeguard Ghana’s natural ecosystems.
