Residents Call For Removal of Queenmother for Desecrating Nsuta Stool

Some aggrieved youth of Nsuta in the Ashanti Region have issued their remonstrance against the Queenmother of Nsuta, Nana Duwaa Siabura II, for wantonly defying the traditions and customs of Nsuta Stool.

Enumerating a number of sacrilegious acts in a petition to the Nsuta Traditional Council during a peaceful demonstration on Thursday, 20th April 2023, spokesperson for the group, Frank Owusu, noted that for more than a decade, the queen mother has been derelict in her customary duties to the stool, including her refusal to offer libation to the ancestral spirits.

“For more than 15 years, the queen mother of Nsuta has shirked her traditional duties to the stool. This negligence clearly shows a disrespect for our customs and ancestors.”

Additionally, the group noted that the queen mother has illegitimately assumed the status of Paramount Chief of Nsuta and created stools for her cronies.

According to the petitioners, following the demise of Nsutahene in 2019, the queen mother has obstructed the Gyaasehene from acting as caretaker chief, despite him being duly recognised by the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

They stated that in alliance with two other people who hold no traditional authority in Nsuta, the queen mother has enstooled the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsuta-Kwaman Beposo Constituency, Honourable Adelaide Ntim as Dadiesoabahemaa.

This, according to the group, is a contravention of Article 94(3)(c) of the 1992 Constitution which states that: “A person shall not be eligible to be a member of Parliament if he is a Chief”.

“Initially, the queenmother supervised the enthronement of the Gyaasehene, which was duly recognised by the Manhyia Palace. But she has now pronounced herself Paramount Chief, preventing Gyaasehene from acting in that capacity. She has also contemptuously created a stool for the incumbent MP ”

The group noted emphatically that the most grievous desecration of the stool was for the queen mother to have used the sacred platform meant for the chief.

According to them, the conduct of the queen mother has incurred the wrath of their ancestral spirits.

They stressed that the financial struggles encountered by the youths, the lack of development in the area, amongst others, are the repercussions of the queen mother.

They have, therefore, called for her to be immediately dethroned to pave way for the installation of a new chief.

Receiving the petition on behalf of the traditional council, the Chief of Adakogyakye, Nana Osei Bosompem III, assured the group that their concerns would be duly presented to the Asantehene. He, therefore, tasked the group to put their petition into writing and make an official presentation to the council.
