Parliamentary Select Committee Commends GTEC for Tertiary Education Reforms

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has commended the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission for ongoing reforms to strengthen quality assurance, academic integrity, digital transformation, and graduate employability.
Committee members made the commendation during a working visit to GTEC on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The Commission briefed them on its regulatory activities, measures to curb the misuse of academic titles, and ongoing digital transformation initiatives.
The Committee was also updated on the National Advisory Group (NAG), the Open and Distance Learning Policy, and plans toward establishing the Ghana Open University.
GTEC officials outlined how these initiatives are designed to expand access, improve oversight, and better align tertiary education with job market needs.
The Committee members pledged continued collaboration with GTEC as it advances NAG, ODL, digitalisation, and the proposed Ghana Open University.
They said Parliament’s support will help the Commission deliver on its mandate to ensure quality and accountability in the sector.
GTEC’s reforms come at a time when the government is pushing for stronger links between tertiary education output and national development goals, particularly in skills, innovation, and employment.
