Our Former Presidents Could Hold Solutions to Our National Issues – Otumfuo

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the government to leverage the experience of former heads of state, noting that they could hold solutions to many of the country’s national problems.
His Majesty stressed the need for cohesion between serving and former presidents.
“We also want the nation to create space for them — as serving and former heads of state — to engage on critical national issues, not as adversaries but as elder statesmen whose insight can be invaluable in the search for solutions to myriad national issues.
This can be a massive boost not only for governance but for the peace and harmony of the state,” Otumfuo said.
Addressing the ‘World-Meets-in-Ghana’ Executive Dinner Ball held on April 24, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene condemned the adversarial nature of politics, saying it threatens to override the instinct for civility and brotherliness.
However, His Majesty affirmed Manhyia’s determination to ensure Ghanaians do not give in to the corrosive effects of misguided politics and remain true to the time-honored traditional values of respect for elders.
“Our goal is to create conditions for consensus building and mitigate the effects of the perpetual acrimony we continue to experience,” he stated.
That said, Otumfuo warned against taking the peace of the country for granted.
The occasion was graced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, businessman Sir Sam Jonah, the Olu of Warri Kingdom in Nigeria, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, and his wife, Her Royal Highness Olori Atuwatse III.
Also present were Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, politician Alan Kyerematen, Council of State member Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
