GHS Begins Nationwide Polio Immunisation Tomorrow

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced a nationwide immunisation exercise against the deadly Polio disease from tomorrow, 1st to 4th September 2022.

The exercise according to the service is to protect children from day one to five years old in the country. It comes after the GHS announced that it has recently recorded some few cases of the Polio disease and hence the need for the exercise.

A Public Health Nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital, Mrs Martha Danso, in an interview with Opemsuo News urged all parents to cooperate and ensure their children under five years are immunised accordingly.

She says the exercise has been categorised into two phases as the first phase begins tomorrow, 1st September

She said about 7,200 children under five years have been targeted in the Manhyia Sub-Metro in this exercise. The second phase of the exercise, according to her, takes off from 6th to 9th October this year.

Ashanti Regional Director of Health, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang, at a press conference today pleaded with parents and guardians to open up to health personnels who have been deployed to their homes and other areas for the exercise.

He assured that the vaccines are safe and effective and urged the public to be rest assured.
