After a year of hiatus, the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge (OCRC) is coming back on the airwaves, organisers have announced.

This year’s special edition- the third- will begin at the district level in April and dubbed the “Silver Jubilee Edition” in honour of the 25th Anniversary celebration of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation announced the exciting news in a Facebook post on Monday, March 25, 2024.

“The Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge is here! This year’s Edition is dubbed the ‘SILVER JUBILEE Edition’.”

Sixty selected districts in the country will battle out for the Ultimate Cup, prizes and the bragging rights.

The Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge is an initiative of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation (OOTIIF), a non-governmental organisation of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The competition is an English and Twi reading challenge meant to promote and imbibe the spirit of reading in Junior High School students.

The 2022 edition was won by Lordina Serwaa Agyapong, the representative of Tafo and a student of the Tafo Pankrono M/A JHS.

Lordina took home a cash prize of Ghc10,000, educational scholarships among others from the organisers of the event, a slew of prizes from sponsors and a laptop from the MP of Tafo Constituency, Hon. Vincent Asafua.
