A/R: Kwabre East Assembly Embarks on a Massive Decongestion Exercise

The Kwabre East Municipality in the Ashanti Region, under the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Amankwah, has embarked on a massive decongestion exercise, beginning at the municipal capital, Mamponteng, on Friday, September 5.

In an interview with Opemsuo.com, Hon. Amankwah explained that the Assembly has long faced congestion caused by indiscriminately placed temporary containers along the roadside, which pose serious safety concerns for traders.

He revealed that the demolition exercise is part of the Assembly’s preparations for the continuation of the abandoned Mamponteng Market project, which will resume as the contractor returns to site soon.

“The ongoing decongestion exercise was already in the Assembly’s resolution before I assumed office,” Hon. Amankwah stressed.

According to him, at Fawoade Junction, the activities of taxi drivers are damaging the constructed roads, since that section of the road is yet to be handed over to the Assembly.

He further stated that the congestion of temporary containers has made pedestrian movement difficult.

Hon. Amankwah called on affected traders to remain patient, assuring them that the Mamponteng Market will be completed soon to provide them with a proper place for business.

He stressed that the decongestion exercise will not end at Mamponteng but will be extended across the entire municipality, especially in areas that urgently require it.
