Nurses Strike: Health Minister’s Statement Reflects How Our Services are Undervalued- GRNMA Prez

The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, has taken offence at the Minister for Health’s statement over the immediate implementation of their approved conditions of service.
She believes the government would make room within the 2025 budget to cater for their welfare had the profession been appreciated enough.
“You are telling us today that there is no room within the budget to cater for what we deserve as nurses and midwives, then they are telling us that they do not value what we do or what we do within the health space,” she told 3news.
She asserted that nurses and midwives in Ghana deserve to have their Collective Agreement implemented within this year.
According to her, the Association had been patient with the government in the past six months, hoping it would give it the room needed to settle down.
“Membership of the association and the entire fraternity of midwives have said they are tired of the excuses that we are giving. They are working in work settings where other health professionals are benefiting from what they should be benefitting from. What stops us from doing the needful.”
The Minister at a press conference on June 10, 2025, said the immediate implementation of the conditions will dislocate the budget.
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) laid down their tools on June 2 in response to plans by the government to defer the implementation of their approved conditions of Service.
However, the government seeks a roadmap for the successful implementation of the new conditions, noting that the immediate implementation will dislocate the national budget.
At the presser, the Minister said the government remains committed to the needed engagement that will lead to the approval and implementation of the new conditions of service for nurses and midwives.
