NDC Prepares For Congress

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to hold its 10th National Congress on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Some 8,964 delegates are expected to cast their votes in electing the national chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, National Organiser, Deputy National Organiser, and National Communications Officer, among others.

The Congress will be held at the Accra Sports Stadium under the theme, “Rallying For Victory 2024; Ghana’s Hope”.

Launching the event on December 5, the Chairman of the party’s National Delegates Congress Planning Committee, Alex Segbefia said, “we need to all come together regardless of political party status. We have to come together as people and as a country. With what is happening in the country currently, it is clear that the only hope as a country that we have is the NDC coming into power in 2025.”

He indicated that Accra Sports Stadium was chosen “because of the numbers that are involved in our Congress”

He added, “The Grounds and Accommodations Committee have laid out plans to ensure that all delegates and guests are well seated and the party hosts a successful Congress…A Congress Delegates Village is being established at the University of Ghana, Legon, which will accommodate delegates the night before- Friday- to ensure that all delegates are bussed to the Congress ground on time.”
He noted that plans are far advanced to conduct the elections on time and within a day.

“The Congress Planning Committee has been working with the Election Committee and has drawn up plans to ensure we have elections that can be finished in a day. In that vein, we are looking to set up seventeen different polling stations to cater for sixteen regions in a way and manner and a configuration that will allow multiple voting simultaneously.”

In his address, he urged delegates and aspirants to go through the published lists of delegates to address all outstanding issues ahead of the Congress.

“The delegate lists have gone out. There is nothing like a perfect list so please scrutinise it. If there are issues you have with the delegate lists, especially for the aspirants, make it known as soon as possible…Do not come and give us an injunction on the day when you’ve had all this time to rectify any issue you feel is necessary.”

He assured delegates, aspirants and guests about adequate security.

The NDC seeks to recapture power in the 2024 general elections and, therefore, looks up to a team of leaders who would give the party a formidable ground for victory.
