Minority Announces Plans for Comprehensive SIM Re-registration Exercise in Next NDC Government
The Minority Party in Parliament has unveiled its plans to initiate an extensive SIM re-registration program if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumes power in the next government.
This announcement comes in response to the current government’s ongoing SIM card re-registration initiative, which commenced on October 1, 2021, with the goal of combatting fraud and monitoring individuals involved in criminal activities through their mobile phones.
During a media briefing in Parliament, Samuel Nartey George, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications Committee, expressed concerns about the current re-registration process and underscored the NDC’s commitment to implementing a more comprehensive SIM re-registration exercise in the future.
George stated, “We believe that the current approach, which requires individuals to queue at telecom offices for re-registration, is flawed. Therefore, we have made it known that the next NDC government will undertake a proper and thorough SIM re-registration exercise.”
The Minority Party aims to address the perceived shortcomings of the current process and introduce a more efficient and user-friendly system for Ghanaians to update their SIM card details.
