Media General Reports NPP Executive to Police Over Pushed Microphone

The Management of Media General, the parent company of TV3, has reported the Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, to the police.
The executive at a press conference on Wednesday was captured pushing down the microphone of the media organisation.
In a later interview, he reportedly admitted to intentionally pushing down the equipment and went further to directly threaten personnel of the media organisation who would show up his party events.
The media house recognizes that his statements and actions constitute an attack and infringement on press freedom and the safety.
“In view of this, Media General has lodged an official complaint with the Ghana Police Service, urging a full investigation and action against Alhaji Osman Masawudu to guarantee the safety of our journalists and media personnel in the discharge of their lawful duties.”
It further urged civil society organizations, and the Ghana Journalists Association to stand in defense of media freedom and the safety of journalists across the country.
Reiterating it’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalism, Media General noted that it will not be intimidated or deterred in its pursuit of truth and the public’s right to information.
It will be recalled that in January 2024, the NPP banned its members from appearing on any Media General platform.
The opposition party accused the organisation of unfairness, contributing to it’s unprecedented defeat in the December 2024 elections.
