The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has overseen a befitting burial service for the deceased Deputy Director of Regional Operations at the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mrs Afua Akyaa.
The wife and mother of two, with a distinguished career spanning decades, was a royal of the Asante Kingdom and passed away on September 15, 2025.
Otumfuo presided over the burial rites and service jointly performed at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on October 6, 2025.

Journey Home Alone
In his heartfelt tribute, the widower recalled how he journeyed together with her “happily” and “purposefully” to Kumasi and ended up returning without her.
He said her role in his life transcended that of a life partner, further describing her as the “very heartbeat of my days.”
“Her sudden departure has left a silence that words can barely touch, yet it is in words that I try to honour the love we shared. She was the light that guided me through the darkest hours, the laughter that lifted my spirit, the gentle strength that reminded me what love truly means. To know her was to know kindness, grace, and a beauty that radiated far beyond appearances— her spirit shone in the way she cared for others, in her boundless generosity, and in her unwavering support.”

Unplanned Departure
For their part, her two daughters mourned the abrupt nature of her death, saying, “Your departure was not one we planned for to happen so soon, and it has left a great hole in our hearts.”
They hailed her as “God’s perfect gift to us”, “our best friend”, and “our symbol of hope.”
“We remember your constant reminder that we serve a true and living God, and to always live our lives in accordance with His purpose and will.
“From your life, Mummy, we saw you live in complete surrender to God, trusting in Him always. So, although our hearts are heavy, we will carry on with this blessed assurance.”

Joining the King, the royals and traditional authorities were Lady Julia, wife of the Asantehene, Akosua Fremah Osei Opare, Former Presidency Chief of Staff and Management of the NCA.
