Mamponghemaa Credits Otumfuo For Queen Mothers Inclusion

The queen mother of Asante Mampong, Nana Agyakoma Difie II has ascribed  improvement in the inclusiveness of female traditional rulers in various activities to efforts of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to her, the role of the King in women empowerment and the welfare of women including queen mothers has been crucial.

She said this during an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Adomankomasem on the maiden edition of Queen mothers’ Day and the 6th Coronation anniversary of Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

“The welfare of women and women empowerment is critical to our Lord {Otumfuo}”, she told the host, Kwame Akosa.

“It’s true that men sideline us but gradually, things are getting better”, she added.

She continued, “Women are restrained but since the ascension of Otumfuo Osei Tutu, that is changing. For instance women were left out when money had to be shared but since he {Otumfuo} came, lest it doesn’t get to him. He has women at heart because he knows he was born by a woman.”

In 2022 Otumfuo Osei Tutu II declared February 6 as Queen mothers Day.

He said the Day will be used to recognise the contribution of queen mothers to humanity and to the development of the Asante kingdom and Ghana at large.
