Mahama Signs New GIPA Act to Position Ghana as Top Investment Destination

President John Dramani Mahama has officially signed into law the new Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) Act, repealing the former Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Act.
It was assented to on July 22, 2026, at the Jubilee House.
The new legislation is designed to reposition Ghana as a leading investment destination in Africa and beyond by introducing streamlined processes that cut red tape and make it easier for investors to establish and operate businesses in the country.
Under the Act, investor protection has been strengthened through a more robust legal framework intended to give both local and foreign investors greater confidence and security.
The law also enhances the institutional capacity of the Authority by granting it expanded mandates to promote, facilitate, and monitor investments more effectively.
In addition, the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority is mandated to support Ghanaian enterprises to scale up and play a more active role in the investment ecosystem.
This is expected to ensure that local businesses benefit meaningfully from new investment opportunities.
Government says the reforms are bold steps aimed at accelerating economic growth, creating jobs, and positioning Ghana as the leading investment hub in West Africa.
