Local Government Office Denies Fake Facebook Recruitment Ad, Warns Public Against Fraudsters

The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service has cautioned the public against a fraudulent recruitment advertisement circulating on Facebook, stating that the Local Government Service is not currently recruiting.

In a disclaimer dated July 21 and signed by the Head of Service, Prof. Lord Mensah, the OHLGS said its attention had been drawn to a false post made by a Facebook page called “All Teacher Unions updates” and attributed to one “Isaac Joe Mensah, a purported Protocol Officer of the Head of Local Government Accra” with phone number 055-211-79-79.

According to the Office, the post claims to offer “immediate appointment in the Local Government Service” and uses the LGS logo and a forged letter to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

The OHLGS stated categorically that the publication is fake and has no connection whatsoever with the Local Government Service.

The Office clarified that the LGS is not recruiting at the moment and that any recruitment exercise will be officially announced on the LGS website http://lgs.gov.gh and on verified social media pages.

It further stated that the Service does not charge any fee, nor does it use individuals, agents or “protocol officers” to recruit staff, adding that appointments into the Service are done through a transparent and merit-based process.

The OHLGS also noted that there is no entity by the name “Local Government Accra”, and that the correct name of the institution is the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service.

It emphasized that the name Isaac Joe Mensah, the phone number +233552117979 and the said Facebook page are not affiliated with the OHLGS, and urged the public to disregard them. The Office warned that the document in circulation is forged and advised the public not to make any payment or share personal information with the fraudster.

Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any such fraudulent activities to the Police or by email to info@lgs.gov.gh. The OHLGS said it is working with relevant security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrator to book.
