KMA Distances Itself from Viral Video of Police Officer Confronting Tow Truck Operators

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has clarified that it was not involved in a viral video showing a police officer brandishing a gun during a confrontation with personnel of a towing service in the Central Business District.

In a statement issued on July 22, 2026, the Assembly said it had taken note of the video in which a police officer was seen drawing a gun during a heated verbal exchange with personnel from Day and Night Towing Service, a company contracted by the KMA.

According to the Assembly’s preliminary investigations, the incident occurred around 2:00pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Roman Hill in Kumasi.

Personnel of Day and Night Towing Service had found a saloon car parked at an unauthorized place, clamped it, and initiated processes to tow the vehicle. In the course of the towing, a police officer in uniform identified as Y.E. Aboagye showed up to claim ownership of the car.

The officer questioned their authority to tow the vehicle, which resulted in a verbal exchange, and allegedly threatened to shoot personnel of the towing service in the foot if they attempted to tow the car.

The KMA described the incident as unfortunate and highly avoidable.

While condemning what happened, the Assembly stated categorically that the matter did not involve its Security Taskforce. It therefore urged the public to disregard any false information linking the said video to the KMA Security Taskforce.

The Assembly also disclosed that the matter has been reported to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
