Ghana Excluded from Green Card Review and Immigration Suspension- Ablakwa

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced the exemption of Ghana from the United States of America’s review of Green Card and suspension of immigration from third-world countries.

This communication followed a very constructive engagement with Acting US Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rolf Olson, on December 1, 2025.

According to the Minister, the meeting was used to assess recent positive strides in bilateral relations, including the “exemption of Ghana from last week’s Trump Green Card Review and immigration suspension policy.”

US President Donald Trump last week announced his decision to halt immigration from third-world countries as well as review all issued Green Cards.

This was in response to the shooting of two members of the National Guard in Washington, DC, one of whom later died.

Investigators identified an Afghan national as a suspect.

“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the US system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform on Thursday.
