KMA to Reintroduce Sanitation Guards to Tackle Filth

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced plans by city authorities to deploy sanitation guards, popularly known in local parlance as “Nsamansaman,” across communities in the metropolis.

The mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, said this will begin in July as part of intensified efforts to improve sanitation.

He said this while expressing concern over what he described as the persistent indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains by some residents despite ongoing arrests and prosecutions of sanitation offenders.

Speaking in an interview with the press on Monday, June 8, Hon Ofori Agyemang Boadi said he will lead sanitation guards to the communities as part of stringent measures to ensure residents comply with sanitation regulations.

He stressed that the deployment of the sanitation guards forms part of broader efforts to address poor sanitation practices and protect the city from environmental and public health risks.

”So far, we have sent about 26 to court, but there are still recalcitrant ones. “We are not giving up. We will work until we instil discipline. From the 1st of July, we will bring back the Nsamansaman that we used to experience in Kumasi.
