GRA Customs Boss Pledges Closer Collaboration to Boost Revenue, Curb Illicit Trade

Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Aaron Kanor, has pledged closer collaboration with Togo Customs, traditional authorities, and security agencies to boost revenue collection and curb illicit trade along Ghana’s eastern border.

The commitment came during Commissioner Kanor’s maiden working visit to the Aflao Area on June 8, 2026.

The tour focused on engaging key stakeholders to facilitate legitimate cross-border trade and strengthen border security as part of GRA’s revenue mobilisation efforts.

As part of the visit, Commissioner Kanor and his delegation held formal discussions with officials of Togo Customs at the Lomé border office.

The talks aimed to deepen cooperation between the two customs administrations, enhance joint border control, and coordinate action against smuggling and other illicit trade activities that erode state revenue.

“Effective collaboration with our Togolese counterparts and all security agencies at the border is key to sealing leakages and achieving national revenue targets,” he said.

The Commissioner paid a courtesy call on Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, to outline his vision and seek support for lawful trade practices within the community.

He also met officers of the Customs Division at Aflao and members of the Border Operations and Security Committee (BOSEC).

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration among sister agencies to create a united front for national security and development.

Addressing Customs officers at the Aflao Collection Officers’ Mess, Commissioner Kanor listened to their concerns on working conditions and operational efficiency and assured them their feedback would be factored into GRA’s improvement plans.

He further toured key posts, including Dabala Collection and Ave-Havi Exit Point, to assess operations firsthand.
