KMA to Demolish Unauthorised Structures Under Asafo Interchange
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a demolition exercise, targeting unauthorised structures and activities beneath the Asafo Interchange, behind the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) office, and around the Takoradi Flour Mill enclave.
The exercise will take place on Friday, July 17, 2026.
In a public notice issued today, KMA said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to restore order, improve public safety, and reclaim public spaces from illegal occupation and criminal elements.
The Assembly recalled that during a recent inspection and enforcement operation at the site, officers of KMA, City Guards, and security personnel came under attack while carrying out their lawful duties.
“The public, particularly perpetrators of these barbaric acts, should note carefully that such acts will not deter the Assembly from enforcing the law and ensuring the safety of residents,” the statement said.
KMA has directed all persons who have erected temporary or unauthorised structures within the affected areas to vacate the premises on or before Friday, 17th July 2026.
The Assembly also warned any individual or group using the area as a base for prostitution, the sale of hard drugs, or any other criminal activity to leave immediately. It stressed that it will not tolerate the continued use of public spaces for illegal activities.
Any individual or entity claiming to have lawful authorisation or a permit to occupy the area has been asked to submit relevant documentation to the Works Department of KMA before close of work on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
According to the Assembly, any structure for which valid authorisation is not received and verified by Wednesday, July 15, 2026, will be considered unauthorised and will be demolished during the exercise.
KMA urged all affected persons to comply with the directive to avoid forceful eviction without compensation for lost items or structures.
