NSMQ Final Postponed

The Grand finale of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has been postponed, organizers have announced.

In a statement, Primetime Limited said the postponement conforms with traditions as the Ga state will be mourning their deceased queen mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III within that period.

The final was initially scheduled for October 24, however, the Ga state will, during the period, hold the funeral and burial rites of the late leader.

Additionally, the decision comes as the state has banned noise-making, trading and other public activities within that period.

“Primetime Limited announces that in line with tradition, and in memory of the late Ga Manye Naa Dedei Omaedru III, the Grand Finale of the National Science & Maths Quiz, scheduled for Tuesday, 24th October, 2023 has been postponed,” a part of the statement read.

The final will now be held on the last day of October 2023 at the National Theatre in Accra.

Opoku Ware School (OWASS), Achimota School (MOTOWN) and Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) have sailed through to the final stage of the competition.

Record holders PRESSEC seeks to make their eighth win this year having won in 1995, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2020 and 2022.

OWASS last won the trophy in 2002 and hopes to end their 23-year thirst this year. They clutched their first win in 1997.

Meanwhile, MOTOWN who won their first and second titles in 1998 and 2004 respectively is coveting for their third with their sail.
