Galamsey: Chiefs Should Help To Stop Cutting Down Of Cocoa Trees-Mrs Ama Acquah

The Administrator of stool lands and Surveyor Mrs Ama Edumadze- Acquah has called on Chiefs to step in to stop farmers within their traditional areas from cutting down cocoa trees for illegal mining (Galamsey).

She made the call on Friday, October 14, 2022, during the first 2022 general meeting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs presided over by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at Manhyia.

It has been reported that some cocoa farmers are cutting down their cocoa trees, leaving the lands to illegal Miners for mining activities.

According to her, the actions of cutting down cocoa trees will come back and affect Chiefs concerning stool lands issues.

Mrs Acquah appealed to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other Chiefs to accelerate the settlement of disputes concerning land litigations to promote peace in respective traditional areas.

In addition, she urged the Chiefs to collaborate with the Office of stool Land Administration to enhance their services.

Mrs Acquah stated that her outfit will remain committed to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as far as their land administration affairs are concerned.
