Interior Ministry Urges Caution as Floods Hit Several Parts of Ghana

The Ministry of the Interior has called on the general public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rains and flooding that affected several parts of the country this morning.
In a statement, the Ministry outlines some precautionary public safety measures and urged citizens to remain where they are until conditions improve.
It said those who are safely at home should stay there, while those at workplaces or other safe locations should not attempt to travel until it is safe to do so, noting that unnecessary movement should be avoided.
The Ministry also warned motorists and pedestrians against driving or walking through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways.
It said floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose a significant danger to life and property.
To manage the situation, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Disaster Management Organisation and other emergency response teams have been deployed.
Their assignment includes monitoring developments, assisting affected persons, managing traffic and undertaking rescue operations where necessary.
Residents living in flood-prone communities have been advised to move to higher ground where it is safe and to report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency service without delay.
The Ministry further urged the public to remain calm, cooperate with security and emergency personnel, and rely only on official channels for information and updates.
For emergency assistance, the public can contact the Ghana Police Service on 18555 or 112, the Ghana National Fire Service on 192, and NADMO on 112.
The Ministry said the safety and well-being of the public remain the government’s highest priority and assured that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as necessary.
It also extended its concern to all persons affected by the flooding and reiterated that every effort is being made to provide the necessary assistance and ensure public safety.
