Interior Ministry Suspends Kantanka Security Licence Over Uniform, Firearms Violations

The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the Private Security Organisation (PSO) operating licence for Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect.
This follows reports of alleged use of unprescribed uniform and unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition by its personnel at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The decision was taken after preliminary investigations indicated possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operation of private security firms in Ghana.
The Ministry said the usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security.
Consequently, the Ministry has directed the company to immediately cease all operations pending the conclusion of investigations.
All institutions have been advised to refrain from conducting business with Kantanka Security Services Limited until further directives are issued.
The Ministry has also instructed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all necessary information to facilitate a thorough investigation.
The public has been assured that the suspension is an administrative measure intended to safeguard public safety while investigations are ongoing.
Appropriate action will be taken upon completion in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private security operations in Ghana, the Ministry added.
It further entreated the general public to report any unlawful activities involving Private Security Organisations and their personnel to the nearest police station.
It also reminded all PSOs of the Public Notice on uniform compliance issued by the Ghana Police Service on February 5, 2026, and stressed that strict adherence is required.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring regulatory compliance and said it will not hesitate to act against any PSO found to be in breach of the law.
