Hotel Costs Are Expensive, And This Prevents Tourist From Visiting Ghana – Otumfuo Tells Tourism Minister

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has raised concern about the high cost of hotels and lodging areas for tourists in the country.

He said the high expenses of the hotels contribute to the warden of visitors in the nation which affects tourism negatively.

“Some hotels are expensive, people plan towards visiting Ghana and when told the price of hotels and their money isn’t enough they will not come anymore.”

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon Dr. Mohammed Awal paid a courtesy call on His Majesty where these concerns were raised.

Otumfuo also noted that the misplaced essence of tourism on the side of Ghanaians contributes massively to the downfall of the sector.

“Ghanaians do not understand tourism, someone at Ho has no idea of Sekondi and the opposite, we don’t visit places to know our environment but if we travel around, we go to Mole Park then we will be exposed to a different lifestyle, which brings unity and happiness.”

He said understanding of the arts and culture must be well relayed for domestic tourism improvement.

“We have to ensure that Ghanaians get the whole idea of tourism, it will be a good substitute to touring outside.”

In his statements, he also made mentioned that priority should be given to training human personnel who make first contact with visitors in the country especially commercial drivers.

“Taxi drivers must be abreast with art and culture lessons so that when they are asked by tourists about a site, they can provide accurate information.

“Engage with taxi unions because they are amongst the first group of people tourists meet upon arrival.”
