Historic 3rd Akwasidae Draws Former NBA Star Pops Mensah-Bonsu to Manhyia Palace

Former NBA star and British-Ghanaian sports executive Pops Mensah-Bonsu was among the numerous diaspora personalities who joined the historic 3rd Akwasidae festival at Manhyia Palace on Sunday.

The event coincided with the 27th enthronement anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Mensah-Bonsu used the occasion to pay homage to the Asantehene and inform him about his new movie project, ‘Sankofa’, which has brought him to Ghana.

Clad in traditional kente, Mensah-Bonsu paid homage to the King, a moment that highlighted the deep connection between the basketball legend and his Ghanaian roots.

During the audience, he officially informed the Otumfuo of his latest creative endeavour: a film project titled ‘Sankofa’.

Beyond the film announcement, the former Dallas Mavericks forward used the occasion to express his profound admiration for the King’s leadership.

He humbly offered his well-wishes to the Otumfuo on his 27-year milestone, praising his role as a “Pillar of Peace” and a champion for education and sports development across the country.

“It is an honour to be home during such a historic milestone for Asanteman,” Mensah-Bonsu remarked. “To witness the 27th anniversary of the King’s reign while working on a project about our shared history is a deeply personal full-circle moment.”
